As an experienced clinician in relation to the management of Shoulder conditions, Andrew regularly consults and provides a second opinion on a variety of Shoulder presentations. These include but are not limited to:

  • The Unstable Shoulder (Traumatic and Atraumatic)
  • The Stiff Shoulder (Osteoarthritis and Frozen Shoulder)
  • Rotator Cuff-Related Pain (Tendinopathy, Tears, “Impingement”)
  • Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tears
  • Post-operative Shoulders (Subacromial Decompression, Rotator Cuff Repairs, Stabilisation Procedures, Shoulder Replacements)

What can you expect from the Shoulder Clinic?

Andrew will provide you with an expert clinical assessment of your presentation. Andrew is a firm believer in that he does not interact with Shoulder conditions, he interacts with people with Shoulder conditions. He will take the time to listen to your history, your journey and how you got to the point you are today. In the majority of presentations, the problem can be identified from a thorough conversation and clinical examination, in very few cases is further imaging or investigations required. Should this be the case, Andrew will advise you of such and ensure that the appropriate investigations are performed to help you on your road to recovery.

Injection Therapy

As an Extended Scope Physiotherapist (ESP), Andrew is considered an expert health professional (ESPPN Constitution 2012). As such, he has undertaken training in and holds the prestigious qualification of a Postgraduate Diploma in the Theory and Practice of Injection Therapy from the Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine. This qualification means that Andrew is able to offer you an Injection, should you require it, to facilitate your rehabilitation.

Andrew usually performs either viscosupplementation, corticosteroid or local anaesthetic injections as part of his practice. For more information please see here.

What if the problem requires more than Physiotherapy?

Although the best available research evidence suggests that appropriate and specialist Physiotherapy intervention is equal to, if not superior to, surgical intervention for many of the common Shoulder presentations, there are times when Andrew may suggest you are reviewed by an Orthopaedic Consultant to discuss more invasive treatment option. Andrew regularly receives referrals from local Orthopaedic Consultants to rehabilitate their patients and thus is able to recommend your referral to them should this be the most appropriate option for you, and your Shoulder at that time.

Do you require a Second Opinion?

Have you previously been seen by a Physiotherapist and been told “there is nothing more I can do for you”? Have you previously received Surgical intervention but are unfortunately still suffering with your Shoulder problem?

Unfortunately, the above circumstances are not uncommon. Andrew is regularly and with increasing frequency being asked to provide a Second Opinion on such cases.

Should you want somebody else to review your presentation and through a process of expert clinical examination, identify the drivers of your continued problem and start you on the path to recovery, please do not hesitate to book an appointment with Andrew.
